Alaska Teacher Recertification, Done Online

Because great teachers never stop learning.

DEED / TEACH-AK Aligned

Earn the contact hours you need to renew your Alaska teaching certificate, on your own schedule. iTeachAI Academy offers standards-aligned professional development for K-12 educators, anchored to Alaska frameworks, each course providing 15 contact hours, with a Certificate of Completion that documents toward your license renewal.

Alaska requires Professional Teacher Certificate holders to complete 6 renewal credits every five years, renewed through the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development using the TEACH-AK online system. iTeachAI Academy was founded by Dr. Janette Camacho, a 30-year K-12 educator, and every Alaska course is anchored to specific Alaska frameworks, not generic national content. Courses are self-paced, work on any device, and are designed to fit the Alaska renewal credit and district professional development pathways.

Alaska Certificate Renewal Requirements

To renew an Alaska Professional Teacher Certificate (formerly the Type A certificate), the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) requires the following during each five-year period:

  • 6 renewal credits completed during the five-year term of the certificate.
  • At least 3 of the 6 credits must be upper division or graduate level coursework. The remaining 3 may be upper division, lower division, continuing education units, or non-academic credit.
  • One continuing education unit of at least 15 contact hours equals one renewal credit. Continuing education units and non-academic credit do not satisfy the upper division portion of the requirement.
  • DEED-approved mandatory trainings completed within the prior five years: sexual abuse and sexual assault awareness and prevention, suicide awareness and prevention, dating violence awareness and prevention, and alcohol or drug related disabilities awareness.
  • Renewal applications and fees are submitted through the TEACH-AK online system.

Every iTeachAI Academy course provides 15 contact hours and a verifiable Certificate of Completion, which maps to one Alaska renewal credit when accepted as a continuing education unit. Confirm with your district or DEED how external professional development is recorded.

Important: iTeachAI Academy is not a formally state-approved provider in Alaska, and no Alaska agency has approved iTeachAI. Our courses are standards-aligned, district-acceptable professional development that educators and districts may apply toward renewal at their discretion. Because continuing education units do not satisfy the upper division portion, plan for at least 3 of your 6 credits to come from upper division or graduate coursework. Always verify acceptance with your district or the DEED Teacher Certification office before relying on any course for renewal.

How Alaska Districts Apply iTeachAI Toward Professional Development

Alaska recognizes renewal credit from regionally and nationally accredited institutions, from approved continuing education unit providers, and from district professional development that meets DEED criteria. Because iTeachAI Academy is not a formally state-approved provider, the district route is the practical path, and it is simple:

  1. A district designee reviews one or more courses through a no-cost reviewer account.
  2. The district documents accepted courses under its professional development or continuing education policy.
  3. Teachers complete courses, receive a Certificate of Completion, and submit it for renewal credit, verifying acceptance with the district or DEED first.

What Makes Alaska Coursework Different at iTeachAI

For Alaska School District Leadership

If you direct curriculum, professional learning, or federal programs at an Alaska district, I would be glad to send a no-cost reviewer account so a designee can audit any course end to end before acceptance.

I will also share a sample certificate, the course catalog with descriptions, and a fifteen-minute call at your convenience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is iTeachAI Academy continuing education for already-licensed teachers, or initial teacher preparation?
It is continuing education for educators who are already licensed in Alaska and renewing their certificate. iTeachAI Academy provides clock hours toward your renewal. We do not prepare candidates for a first-time teaching credential and our courses do not lead to initial licensure.
How do I renew my Alaska teaching certificate?
Professional Teacher Certificate holders renew every five years through the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) using the TEACH-AK online system. Renewal requires 6 renewal credits, at least 3 of which must be upper division or graduate level, plus documentation that DEED-approved mandatory trainings were completed within the prior five years. One continuing education unit of at least 15 contact hours equals one renewal credit. iTeachAI courses each provide 15 contact hours and a Certificate of Completion you can document toward your renewal at your district's discretion.
Do iTeachAI courses count toward my Alaska renewal credits?
iTeachAI Academy is not a formally state-approved provider in Alaska. Our courses are standards-aligned, district-acceptable professional development. Each course provides 15 contact hours, which maps to one Alaska renewal credit when accepted as a continuing education unit. Note that continuing education units and non-academic credit do not satisfy the upper division portion, so at least 3 of your 6 renewal credits must still come from upper division or graduate coursework. Confirm with your district or DEED how external professional development is logged.
How many contact hours does each course provide?
Fifteen contact hours per course, which equal one continuing education unit and map to one Alaska renewal credit when accepted by your district or DEED. Every course awards a verifiable Certificate of Completion.
What does it cost in time and money?
iTeachAI keeps cost and time reasonable. Each course runs about three clock hours, is self-paced, and stays accessible for individual teachers, with district site licenses available. Email info@iteachai.co for current options.
Do you provide a certificate of completion?
Yes. Every completed course awards a verifiable Certificate of Completion with contact hours and a verification code, suitable for documentation toward Alaska educator certificate renewal at your district's discretion.
How do I get a reviewer account for my district?
Email info@iteachai.co with your district name and role. A no-cost reviewer account is provisioned within one business day.
