To renew a Colorado professional teacher license, the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), under Colorado State Board of Education rule, requires professional learning completed during each seven-year period:
- 90 contact hours of applicable professional learning every seven years, or six semester hours of college or university coursework, or any combination. Colorado uses contact hours, where one semester hour equals fifteen contact hours.
- 10 contact hours minimum on special education and behavioral health for licenses expiring on or after June 30, 2025, including at least one contact hour on behavioral health that is culturally responsive and trauma and evidence informed, and awareness of laws and practices for educating students with disabilities, including Child Find and inclusive learning environments.
