Michigan Certificate Renewal Requirements
To renew a Standard Teaching Certificate, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) requires Education-Related Professional Learning completed during each five-year period. The certificate carries unlimited renewals, and each renewal adds five years:
- 150 hours of Education-Related Professional Learning, appropriate to the content and grade level of the certificate, since the most recent issue or renewal.
- The 150 hours can be met with 150 State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs), 150 hours of District Provided Professional Development (DPPD), 6 semester credit hours, or any combination. One semester credit equals 25 professional learning hours; one SCECH equals one hour.
- All hours must be entered into the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS) before you apply, so the system recognizes your eligibility.
- SCECHs must be submitted by an MDE-approved sponsoring entity, and you complete the course evaluation in your MOECS profile for the hours to post.
- A renewal can be requested any time after January 1 of the certificate's expiration year.
iTeachAI Academy is SCECH-approved through Saginaw Valley State University's sponsorship, covering 23 of our 25 Michigan-aligned courses. Each course provides three IACET-aligned clock hours and a verifiable Certificate of Completion you can document toward this total. Confirm with your district how outside professional learning is recorded.

How Michigan Districts Approve iTeachAI for Professional Learning Hours
Michigan recognizes State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) for educator certificate renewal, and iTeachAI Academy is SCECH-approved through Saginaw Valley State University's sponsorship, covering 23 of our 25 Michigan-aligned courses. Michigan districts may also accept outside courses as District Provided Professional Development (DPPD) under local policy. iTeachAI Academy is designed for both pathways. The district route is simple:
- A district designee reviews one or more courses through a no-cost reviewer account.
- The district documents approved courses as District Provided Professional Development.
- Teachers complete courses, receive a Certificate of Completion, and the hours post toward renewal credit.

For Michigan School District Leadership
If you direct curriculum, professional learning, or federal programs at a Michigan district, I would be glad to send a no-cost reviewer account so a designee can audit any course end to end before approval.
I will also share a sample certificate, the course catalog with descriptions, and a fifteen-minute call at your convenience.
