New Jersey Certificate Renewal Requirements
New Jersey handles certificate maintenance differently from most states. A standard New Jersey certificate is permanent and does not expire, so there is no periodic renewal application or renewal fee. What New Jersey requires instead is ongoing annual professional development, administered by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE):
- At least 20 hours of professional development every year for active teaching staff members, under N.J.A.C. 6A:9C-3.4. The former five-year, 100-hour cycle has been eliminated in favor of this annual requirement.
- An individual Professional Development Plan (PDP), developed with your supervisor and aligned to the New Jersey Standards for Professional Learning (N.J.A.C. 6A:9C-3.3) and the Professional Standards for Teachers (N.J.A.C. 6A:9-3), guides which activities count.
- The 20 hours are prorated for part-time staff or those on leave. A teacher working 50 percent of the standard schedule completes 10 hours.
- Professional development is tracked at the district level. Districts no longer submit plans to the NJDOE for approval; the local board reviews plans, and the superintendent oversees implementation.
Every iTeachAI Academy course provides three hours of standards-aligned professional development and a verifiable Certificate of Completion you can document toward your annual 20-hour total and your individual PDP. iTeachAI Academy is not a state-approved provider in New Jersey. Our courses are standards-aligned, district-acceptable professional development that you and your district may apply toward the requirement at your discretion. Confirm with your district or the NJDOE certification office how external PD is recorded.

How New Jersey Districts Approve iTeachAI for Professional Development
New Jersey tracks professional development at the district level through each teacher's individual Professional Development Plan. iTeachAI Academy is not a state-approved provider in New Jersey, and we make no claim that any state agency has approved our courses. Instead, our courses are standards-aligned, district-acceptable professional development that a district may accept toward the annual 20-hour requirement at its discretion. The district route is simple:
- A district designee reviews one or more courses through a no-cost reviewer account.
- The district documents accepted courses as qualifying activities on the teacher's PDP.
- Teachers complete courses, receive a Certificate of Completion, and log it toward their annual 20-hour total.

For New Jersey School District Leadership
If you direct curriculum, professional learning, or federal programs at a New Jersey district, I would be glad to send a no-cost reviewer account so a designee can audit any course end to end before accepting it for your educators' PDPs.
I will also share a sample certificate, the course catalog with descriptions, and a fifteen-minute call at your convenience.
