New York Certificate Renewal Requirements

To keep a New York Professional certificate valid, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Office of Teaching Initiatives requires Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) completed during each five-year registration period:

  • 100 CTLE clock hours for educators holding a Professional certificate in the classroom teaching service or educational leadership service, completed across each five-year registration period.
  • At least 15 of those 100 hours must focus on language acquisition addressing the needs of English Language Learners.
  • Teaching Assistant Level III certificate holders are also subject to CTLE. Holders of Permanent certificates are not subject to CTLE.
  • Registration and CTLE are tracked through the NYSED TEACH System, and CTLE hours must be completed through NYSED-approved CTLE sponsors, school districts, BOCES, or institutions of higher education.

Every iTeachAI Academy course provides three clock hours and a verifiable Certificate of Completion you can document toward this total. iTeachAI Academy is not a NYSED CTLE-approved sponsor; CTLE hours must be delivered or sponsored by an approved sponsor, and your approved sponsor or district decides whether external content is accepted. Confirm with your sponsor or district how the hours are recorded.

How New York Districts Approve iTeachAI for CTLE Hours

New York delivers educator CTLE through approved sponsors. NYSED-approved CTLE sponsors, school districts, BOCES, and institutions of higher education deliver and document CTLE for their educators, and each decides which content it accepts. iTeachAI Academy is not a NYSED CTLE-approved sponsor; our courses are CTLE-aligned and anchored to NYSED frameworks, and sponsors and districts decide acceptance. The district route is simple:

  1. A district designee or BOCES coordinator reviews one or more courses through a no-cost reviewer account.
  2. The district or approved sponsor documents accepted courses in its local professional development plan.
  3. Teachers complete courses, receive a Certificate of Completion, and submit it for CTLE renewal credit through their sponsor or district.

What Makes New York Coursework Different at iTeachAI

For New York School District Leadership

If you direct curriculum, professional learning, BOCES PD, or federal programs at a New York district, I would be glad to send a no-cost reviewer account so a designee can audit any course end to end before approval.

I will also share a sample certificate, the course catalog with descriptions, and a fifteen-minute call at your convenience.
