South Carolina Certificate Renewal Requirements

To renew a South Carolina Professional educator certificate, the State Board of Education (SBE) and the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) require renewal credits earned during each five-year certificate cycle:

  • 120 renewal credits earned during the five-year validity period of a Professional certificate.
  • Renewal credits are earned through college coursework, SCDE-approved certificate renewal courses, and Continuing Education Units (CEUs). One semester hour of eligible college credit equals 20 renewal credits, and one CEU equals 10 renewal credits.
  • Renewal is documented through the My SC Educator Portal. Educators employed by a public school district or participating renewal entity submit documentation to their employer; others request renewal through their My SC Educator Portal account and the SCDE Office of Educator Services.
  • State statute also requires the Read to Succeed (R2S) literacy endorsement and Jason Flatt Act suicide awareness and prevention training as part of renewal.

Every iTeachAI Academy course provides three IACET-aligned clock hours and a verifiable Certificate of Completion you can document toward your renewal credit total. Confirm with your district or renewal entity how external professional development is recorded as renewal credit.

How South Carolina Districts Approve iTeachAI for Renewal Credit

South Carolina renewal credit is approved through SC districts, SCDE offices, SCDE-sponsored agencies, or SC institutions of higher education. South Carolina school districts and participating renewal entities independently approve professional development for their educators and document it toward renewal credit. iTeachAI Academy courses are anchored to SCDE frameworks and designed to fit that district pathway. The district route is simple:

  1. A district designee reviews one or more courses through a no-cost reviewer account.
  2. The district documents approved courses on its in-service form and toward renewal credit.
  3. Teachers complete courses, receive a Certificate of Completion, and submit it for renewal credit.

What Makes South Carolina Coursework Different at iTeachAI

For South Carolina School District Leadership

If you direct curriculum, professional learning, or federal programs at a South Carolina district, I would be glad to send a no-cost reviewer account so a designee can audit any course end to end before approval.

I will also share a sample certificate, the course catalog with descriptions, and a fifteen-minute call at your convenience.
