Utah Certificate Renewal Requirements

To renew a Utah Professional Educator License, the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) requires license renewal activity completed during each five-year cycle, governed by administrative rule R277-302:

  • 100 license renewal hours minimum, accrued over the five-year license cycle. Renewal hours are counted as clock hours, with one clock hour equal to one renewal hour.
  • At least two of four approved activity areas must be completed: professional learning (up to 90 hours), educator collaboration (up to 30 hours), professional service (up to 50 hours), and alternate learning opportunities (up to 30 hours).
  • USBE Educator Ethics Review must be completed during the year prior to the date of renewal.
  • Renewals are submitted by the educator's Local Education Agency (LEA) and recorded through the USBE CACTUS licensing system.

Every iTeachAI Academy course provides three IACET-aligned clock hours and a verifiable Certificate of Completion you can document toward your professional learning hours. iTeachAI is not a formally state-approved provider in Utah. Verify with your district or the USBE Licensing Team how external professional development is recorded in CACTUS.

How Utah Districts Approve iTeachAI for Professional Learning Hours

Utah counts educator license renewal hours through approved activity areas under R277-302, and Utah school districts and charter LEAs determine how professional learning is reviewed and recorded in CACTUS for their educators. iTeachAI Academy is not a formally state-approved provider in Utah. Our courses are aligned to the Utah Core Standards and offered as standards-aligned, district-acceptable professional development that LEAs may approve at their discretion. The district route is simple:

  1. A district designee reviews one or more courses through a no-cost reviewer account.
  2. The LEA documents approved courses as professional learning activity for renewal hours.
  3. Teachers complete courses, receive a Certificate of Completion, and submit it for renewal-hour documentation.

What Makes Utah Coursework Different at iTeachAI

For Utah School District Leadership

If you direct curriculum, professional learning, or federal programs at a Utah district, I would be glad to send a no-cost reviewer account so a designee can audit any course end to end before approval.

I will also share a sample certificate, the course catalog with descriptions, and a fifteen-minute call at your convenience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is iTeachAI Academy continuing education for already-licensed teachers, or initial teacher preparation?
It is continuing education for educators who are already licensed in Utah and renewing their certificate. iTeachAI Academy provides clock hours toward your renewal. We do not prepare candidates for a first-time teaching credential and our courses do not lead to initial licensure.
How do I renew my Utah teaching certificate?
Professional Educator License holders renew every five years by accruing a minimum of 100 license renewal hours and completing the USBE Educator Ethics Review during the year prior to renewal, under USBE rule R277-302. Renewal hours must be earned in at least two of four approved activity areas, and your LEA records the renewal through the USBE CACTUS system. iTeachAI courses provide three clock hours each and a Certificate of Completion you can document toward your renewal hours.
Do iTeachAI courses count toward my 100 license renewal hours?
Each course provides three IACET-aligned clock hours with a Certificate of Completion suitable for documentation toward Utah license renewal. iTeachAI is not a formally state-approved provider in Utah, so our courses are offered as standards-aligned, district-acceptable professional development that educators and LEAs may apply toward renewal at their discretion. Confirm with your district or the USBE Licensing Team how external professional development is logged in CACTUS.
How many clock hours does each course provide?
Three clock hours per course, IACET-aligned, suitable for documentation toward your Utah renewal hours. Utah counts renewal hours as clock hours, with one clock hour equal to one renewal hour.
What does it cost in time and money?
iTeachAI keeps cost and time reasonable. Each course runs about three clock hours, is self-paced, and stays accessible for individual teachers, with district site licenses available. Email info@iteachai.co for current options.
Do you provide a certificate of completion?
Yes. Every completed course awards a verifiable Certificate of Completion with contact hours, suitable for documentation toward Utah educator license renewal.
How do I get a reviewer account for my district?
Email info@iteachai.co with your district name and role. A no-cost reviewer account is provisioned within one business day.
